How to Shift into a Fun Mindset
As spring brings its warmth to Colorado, the joy of basking in the sun marks a delightful contrast to the introspective winter months. Throughout this winter, it seems our focus often narrowed to healing, reflecting on the state of the world, navigating hectic work schedules, and engaging in stress reduction, self-care, and self-improvement practices. Now, with the advent of spring, it’s time to pivot our attention toward embracing fun. This shift involves accepting our current state, whatever it may be, and granting ourselves the permission to weave fun into our daily/weekly/monthly routines. What steps will you take to inject more fun into your life this season?
For me, transitioning into a fun mindset starts with altering my behavior and thoughts. Whenever I find myself stuck in monotony, the first remedy I turn to is moving my body. Dancing to an upbeat song, even if it’s right at my desk, instantly uplifts my mood. Incorporating more fun into my life means engaging in playful activities that require no work, bring smiles, and foster feelings of joy. A natural avenue for fun (for me) involves exploring new experiences.
Recently I ventured into a mosaic art class. Despite my curiosity and admiration for mosaic art, the experience—tedious and patience-testing—wasn’t the kind of fun I had envisioned. Nevertheless, I’m glad for the experience, as it refined my understanding of what fun means to me.
This weekend, I plan to explore a nature preserve I’ve been curious about for over 15 years. With spring’s arrival and the bears awakening from hibernation, it promises to be a thrilling outdoor adventure. Additionally, I’ve always found improv comedy funny, prompting me to enroll in an improv class next week.
Fun isn’t confined to new experiences; it also encompasses enjoyable activities like having dinner with friends, attending a comedy show, enjoying live music, or dancing the night away. This Easter, for instance, my kids and I explored a new CAVA bar in our town, curious to experience it firsthand. The afternoon was filled with laughter, pool games, and the unique experience of having the place to ourselves, highlighting how fun can also stem from simple, shared moments.
I encourage you to sprinkle your week with dashes of fun. Choose activities that elicit joy, laughter, and warmth in your heart. Let this energy cascade into the spring season, enriching your interactions and possibly brightening someone else’s day as well as your own.
For those that are local to the Denver area, I am teaching a donation-based Kundalini Meditation Class in person every Tuesday from 5:00-6:15PM at Welcome Goddess in Golden.
