Rest into Being and Allow the Magic of this Time of Year to Fill Your Heart
The end of the year is here, and it feels like it has come so quickly. I am not sure if that is because I am getting older! It feels like the frequency or energy of the world is speeding up. I notice that people seem to be driving even faster. I have been very diligent this year in focusing on slowing down and becoming more present with myself through a meditation practice and dream tending course. I have already observed that I am not as stressed and am more present in my body by incorporating these practices. I recognize subtle things easier. My sensory system is opening even more. (I believe this is also why it feels to me like things are speeding up around me). Maybe on the astral planes they actually are 😊- who really knows?
I find December as an opportunity to not get caught up in the hustle and have started creating practices with my family to gather sharing a meal, and exploring fun questions with each other. This has resulted in allowing our conversations to deepen about what is most important to us at this time of year, what we are most grateful for, and where we want to put our attention as we transition into the new year. This too helps each of us become more present and allow these types of questions to open us to what we really desire.
I have recently had several clients that are dealing with various emotional triggers and/or the need for speed, i.e. to answer emails quickly, to respond fast, and not thinking before acting. Our corporate environments tend to foster this kind of culture. While we cannot change the environment around us, we do have a choice in how we choose to meet any environment or person. The opportunity to pause and to ask ourselves a question about how we want to respond in a way that is our truth can have an amazing – and positive – impact.
Learning how to pause and relax is something we have to train ourselves to do; it is retraining our brain and our nervous system, which means we have to embody practices of deep relaxation. We have to incorporate quality time relaxing – not doing – just being. We have to train our bodies to learn to allow and open verses closing down and reacting with speed.
I invite you this holiday season to take some quality time with yourself and just be. Find a body practice that relaxes you, such as soaking in a floating tank, or sitting on a park bench. Give yourself the gift of your presence, and allow yourself to feel whatever comes up for you (just notice; take no action). Be mindful of the impact of these body practices in your life and relations. It might make it easier to pause when you do get triggered in the moment.
Relaxation is a practice just like any other discipline. The power of it is quite extraordinary in allowing us to be present, listen, and communicate with ourselves and others.
The higher the overwhelm and stress we experience, the higher level of self-care and relaxation we need to implement for ourselves.
Give yourself the power: the power of presence, the power of being, and the power of relaxation this season and pay it forward. Gift it to someone else too. Let’s learn to be present with each other and open our hearts without trying to change anything or fix anything. Let’s open to the magic it can create in our lives.
My Be Whole Journey online course is a great gift for the holiday season for someone you know that would appreciate the pause and time to themselves.
Happy Holidays!
