Your Perception Matters in Your Results
This month is the fall equinox where light and dark balance themselves. It gives us all an opportunity to look at the balance we are holding between the light and dark within ourselves, our lives and our work. This is also an opportunity to be conscious of your preception, where you have been, and where you are going.
With this in mind, I want to talk this month about perspective and managing expectations when it comes to hiring managers, interviewing, networking and creating your next role.
How are you overcoming challenges when it comes to your job search? What perspective and expectations stop you from being in the flow and creating new connections and opportunities?
There are many generations in the workforce, ageism is very prevalent, and the perceptions of our culture impact all of us. Let’s discuss how to begin to allow yourself to learn from adversity in the job search. How are these challenges teaching you to change your own perspective, and how do you manage expectations whether you are a leader, hiring manager or job seeker?
Here are steps for creating a practice of Being in the Flow in order to shift perspective and build new patterns and habits that allow us to let go of expectations.
Expectations keep us from being present in the moment. When we are not present, we stop creative possibilities from happening.
Holding boundaries around how you choose to manage yourself and your beliefs are key in shifting perspective and letting go of expectations.
Key Points for Being Present:
- Mono Task – Do one thing at a time.
- Slow Down by beginning to allow for pauses.
- Ask yourself, “What will I learn from this interaction?”
- Be genuinely curious with yourself and others.
- Remember everyone is doing the best they can.
When you can hold the perspective that everyone is doing their best, it shifts your perspective. It doesn’t matter people’s age, their perspective or actions. When you can be generous and assume the best of others, you free yourself from being stuck in cultural beliefs and getting caught in the downward spiral of judging others and negative thinking. These behaviors can create expectations that are not true and do not serve your growth.
Take the month of September to practice one point from the key points above and see how you experience yourself differently.
I am offering The Art of Being in the Flow series starting in October to support you in creating a practice that reminds you how to relax and receive. See details below.
Happy Fall,
