How to Embrace Your Changing Self
I was out hiking this weekend and am already starting to notice the change in the leaves here in Colorado. The air is a little cooler, the days are getting shorter and the wind is whispering a change in the seasons is upon us. While we can visibly see the change occurring outside of us, I want to take this monthly bulletin to share some thoughts around how to honor the change that is occurring inside of yourself.
As you will read in my book when it comes out in November, I talk about how the reflection of our external environment is a reflection of what is happening in our physical and emotional environment. When we notice a shift outside or a feeling that arises from an external situation it is fertile ground for growing your emotional intelligence and paying attention to what you are feeling. To notice what emotions come up, what thoughts, what triggers.
By pausing and noticing what is coming up you provide space to open your awareness to how you want to respond to that feeling. This develops conscious awareness in learning how to be true to yourself.
As we move into a new season, how will you honor this change inside you?
Here are 3 steps for embracing your changing self:
- What adjectives come to your mind in how you feel about the fall?
- Become aware of what you desire? How are your preferences changing as the days get shorter and the air cooler? Are you desiring different food, activities, more sleep, shopping for fall clothes?
- Once you are aware of what you desire, how will you begin to act on that desire?
We all have heard the only constant in our life is change and when the external is changing around us it is important to be aware of how that is affecting our internal world of feelings and emotions. By learning to flow with the natural change of the seasons you are teaching yourself strategies for embracing all kinds of change that may show up in your life and your work.
This is creating strategies for learning to live more authentic with yourself and learn more about who you are and how to embrace your changing and evolving self.
