How Do You Want to Evolve?
The fact that we spend so much of our time and life at work, it is key that our work is fulfilling, supporting our values and areas we desire to grow. One of the first steps in learning about what is next in our career is getting clear on where we want to evolve and grow. This is an internal process that requires patience and listening to self. If we are not clear on our growth, we tend to end up in a dead-end job that is unfulfilling, which creates negativity and unhappiness.
It is important to take time after each promotion and position on reflection. Here are some key questions to ask yourself.
Reflective Questions:
- What did the last role teach you?
- Where did it push your edges and make you grow?
- What did you develop in yourself as a result of this role?
- What were the accomplishments you are most proud of from this role?
Sometimes we may feel like we are going through the motions in our work and feel bored; then, all of a sudden, we are laid off or feeling unhappy. Pay attention to these types of feelings. These are signals to you to stop, reflect and listen to your inner guidance about what is really going on. Is it asking you to develop patience and learn to navigate the uncomfortableness? Perhaps there is change going on in your organization, and it is bringing up anxiety and fear of what is next for you.
Theses types of events and feelings are part of learning to listen to ourselves and engage with what is being stirred in us. It is a perfect time to use the reflective questions above to assess what you are truly feeling and gain clarity of how to be during this change.
Other times we just know it is time to move on to the next promotion or company. Either way, taking time to stop and reflect supports you in gaining clarity and being strategic in your next career move.
