The Power in Connecting to Our Heart Space
With the month of February focused on giving and receiving love, I want to talk about how we may implement this in a practical approach on an everyday basis. How often are you really living from your heart in a calm, centered place inside yourself? How do you access this place in your heart when you get triggered with a negative thought or emotion?
What is the importance of doing this anyway? Science has proven that our heart intelligence is 10x more powerful than our intellect. When coaching professionals in organizations and business owners are heart directed it not only creates more collaboration and inclusion, but also allows for the difference of opinion to be respected. It creates better leaders, better culture, and more accountability and engagement at every level of the business.
How do we create a practice of flexing our heart muscle and learning to live in a balanced state of heart and head?
In a world where we are consumed with so many opinions, ideas, change and polarity, it seems we don’t have a problem connecting to our head and intellect. Yet to keep this in balance and be able to discern which thoughts to listen to it is key to keeping our heart in check. In order to do this, we must flex the muscle of our hearts.
How does one keep his/her heart open?
A myriad of methods and what works best for you is always the preferred path to follow. I can say that the practices of forgiveness, generosity and gratitude have been crucial to growing the self-trust of opening my heart space wider.
Forgiveness – Do you feel you are holding resentment or grudges toward others or yourself? In practicing forgiveness, you are forgiving yourself and releasing the resistance that keeps the heart tight.
What calls for forgiveness in your life?
What forgiveness do you need to extend to yourself?
Generosity – This involves being generous in giving yourself the rest you need, the care and nourishment, in learning to love yourself deeply so that you can be generous with your love and spread it to others you may meet. Generosity cultivates love at all levels of our being.
Where do you struggle with being generous in your life and in your relationships?
Gratitude – Daily gratitude helps to open my heart and keep it open. This could be gratitude for things that are happening in your life, for the people in your life, and/or for those that have or currently share their love with you. Gratitude keeps alive what has meaning for us, and fosters our capacity to apologize and forgive.
What relationships are you grateful for in your life?
