The Sacred Pause: Trusting What’s Unfolding in the Dark
November always seems to arrive like a whispered invitation to slow down and begin the journey inward. The days shorten, the air cools, and nature begins her descent inward. We are reminded that creation requires stillness; growth continues even when it looks like nothing is happening on the surface.
In my own life, I’ve been feeling the same invitation: to stop trying to manage what’s next and instead to rest in the mystery that’s already moving through me. There’s a difference between giving up and surrendering. Giving up is an act of closing; surrendering is an act of widening. It’s the space where we stop trying to direct the flow and finally let ourselves be carried by it. This is easier said than done and takes moment-by-moment practice.
Lately, I’ve been practicing what I call the Sacred Pause — a few intentional breaths in the middle of the day to drop out of thought and back into the body. When I pause, I focus on what my body feels like: If I am anxious, taking this pause gives me permission to drop my shoulders and calm my sensation internally. It is learning to allow the subtle movement of life reorganizing itself without my interference. In those moments, something softens. The mind relaxes, and the heart begins to speak again. My breath deepens, and I invite stillness.
I invite you to join me in this practice.
Sacred Pause Practice:
· Stop for one full minute throughout your day.
· Let your breath find its own rhythm.
· Feel your body’s weight supported by the earth.
· Whisper inwardly, “I don’t need to fix anything right now.”
· Listen. Feel what unfolds in the silence that follows.
We are so conditioned to believe that transformation comes through effort. But awakening asks for something different — trust, patience, and a willingness to stay in the dark long enough for new light to find us.
As the year turns toward its quiet close, may you remember that your stillness is not stagnation; it’s gestation. Something holy is forming in you.
